Oakland Enterprise Zone

The Oakland Enterprise Zone program has been in existence since 1993. The Oakland Enterprise Zone program has been improved and expanded in recent years. In addition to Downtown the Oakland Enterprise Zones now cover the Port, Airport and several other industrial and commercial parts of the city.

The Oakland Enterprise Zone program's aim is to encourage hiring and grow businesses within the city of Oakland as well as attract potential new businesses both from within and outside of California.
The Oakland Enterprise Zone has seen great usage since it's inception date of September 28th, 1993. Presently, the Oakland Enterprise Zone ranks as one of California's major metropolitan Enterprise Zones. The Oakland Enterprise Zone currently consists of over 27 sq. miles. It is estimated that the Oakland Enterprise Zone covers more than 10,000 businesses. While downtown Oakland is included in the Oakland Enterprise Zone, several other "upscale" areas of the city can also be found within the borders of the Oakland Enterprise Zone.

The Oakland Enterprise Zone is designed to reward businesses that operate within the Zone boundaries with many lucrative tax incentives and savings. With out a doubt the most advantageous of these benefits is a hiring credit worth up to $37,440 per qualified employee. Employees can qualify for this hiring credit in any 1 of 13 different ways regardless of where they live.
